Deaf Animal Row transitions to Deaf Animals.org

Hi all of our dedicated, loyal visitors!

We are happy to say we are broadening our goals and website.  We have decided to change our name to Deaf Animals instead of Deaf Animal Row, so it is time for us to move over to www.deafanimals.org

If you used to subscribe here, please sign up again over at www.DeafAnimals.org because we weren't able to import our long, long list of e-mail addresses from our old e-mail service to the new one.

A primary part of our website will still be deaf animals on death row, however, like you have already seen, we do include posts about deaf animals, success stories and videos of owner-animal bonding, and so on.

Later on, our dream will be to have a website with specific tabs where people can click to go to Death Row, Success Stories, Instructions, FAQ and most importantly, a map of the USA/Canada (and more!) with flags in specific cities where deaf animals need to be rescued and so on.  If any one of you out there is a web designer and want to donate your time to us, we will be eternally grateful!

A bigger dream of ours is to have regional Deaf Animal sanctuaries in various areas of the world rescuing Deaf Animals on death row, giving them a temporary home and preparing them to be adopted.  Remember we include all Deaf "plus" animals, which means DeafBlind, Deaf & HIV+, Deaf & CP, Deaf amputees and so on.  Those friends are the ones that need our help the most.

See you over there!  This blog will be closed down shortly.  With Loving Thanks,
Deaf Animals all over the World!

Deaf Cat Awaits for a New Home in FL!

What's up there?!

She just turned 1. Currently, she is in Florida in care of someone as a favor until she is spayed and vaccinated before she is up for adoption. She gets along with other cats as she is temporarily living with another deaf cat. She is a loving and sweet cat who enjoys to be in the company of others. While the preference is for her to go to a home locally in FL, other neighboring states or on the Northeast side would be considered as long as it will go to the best home that's a good match for her. Those who are interested to adopt her would need to be prepared for a vet reference, home visit, adoption fee and sign a contract. Interested parties, contact deafanimalrow@gmail.com.

Meet Brein and his Deaf Dog!

Brein, who is deaf himself, gave deaf dogs a chance by adopting his own deaf dog and share the importance of giving deaf dogs what we take for granted in the Deaf community and that is the use of ASL and some aspects of its culture. Here is his vlog in ASL:

Deaf/Blind Lulu Lost in San Francisco, CA!

If you find Lulu or have any leads, please call Nikki 415 948 5972 and/or email Sherri, sherripup@earthlink.net

A lady in San Francisco passed away, leaving her beloved dog, Lulu behind. Her daughter took her with her to Downey where she now had to take care of her ailing aunt. During her stay in Downey, poor Lulu may have tried to go home to her “mom” without knowing she passed away, and she’s now missing. She’s blind and deaf. Please help them recover Lulu and reward will be offered!

A Beautiful Story About a Deaf Pit Bull!

Gunther

This is about how the relationship between a rescuer and Gunther was formed. Pit Bulls make up the most in shelters across the nation with misperceptions and stereotypes against them. And then you add deafness to the breed, which makes it a double whammy. They are very loving dogs. More about Gunther and the rescuer, go to:

Home Needed for Deaf Lab/Pit Mix in NY

Adopt Kyrpto

From a FIDO Member

I've been involved with Animal Haven Shelter for over a year now. This former no-kill shelter has changed it's mission and policies to be a limited-intake adoption center with the possibility of humane euthanasia for many animals. What it boils down to is there are many innocent cats and dogs whose lives are now at risk- simply due to restructuring.

In particular, there's a dog named Krypto who needs to be placed as soon as possible. Krypto is a 3 year old Lab-Pit mix, and he is deaf. He's a very loyal companion, who's happy to show off sit and is really looking for someone to guide him. He gets along with other dogs, and anyone he meets, and he is also mostly housebroken. Because he is deaf, he will need someone who can learn to be his guide and help him when he gets scared. See his pix:

www.fidobrooklyn.org/rescue/adoption.html

Additionally, there are over 100 cats and other dogs who are at risk and in need of a home.

If you or anyone you know might be able to help in placing these pets, please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

Deaf Boxer in NC Needs Help!

“JUNE BUG” (ID# 15174) is 4 year old purebred deaf Boxer that knows sign language. She was dropped off today at the shelter b/c her family is going through a divorce. They’ve had her since she was born. She is great with children and other dogs, but her sheet says not so much with cats. She is already housetrained. Sheet says that she hasn’t been spayed. Because of her handicap (deafness) she will not understand anyone at the shelter and doesn’t know what is happening to her. If anyone can please go rescue her before she gets sick and depressed, you’d be doing her a favor of a lifetime! She has a sponsor of $40 already.

Macy May Needs Home to Call Her Own in NJ!

Macy May

This is Heather, Canine Rescue Coordinator for Camden County Animal Shelter, Blackwood, NJ.
We have an absolutely wonderful young pitbull/terrier mixed breed girl named Macy May, who was surrendered to our Shelter when the family's home was foreclosed upon.

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12857683

Macy May is about three years old and was trained in the use of hand signals. She's very bright and energetic. She is fine with other animals. We have recommended children over toddler age due to her exuberant personality.
We are severely overcrowded and we are concerned that Macy's disability will cause adopters to pass Macy on by. As she is used to being in a home, we would like to see her out of the kennel environment and with a group experienced in helping find placement for special needs dogs.

If you can help or know someone who can, kindly contact me at info@ccas.org. As always, that you for all that you do for the animals!

This poor gal has no rescue and no home! She is a purebred Australian Shepherd who is deaf (I am assuming bilaterally) and needs immediate rescue. Good with other dogs (obviously) and sweet natured, just scared in the kennel environment. Deaf dogs are wonderful (I have fostered three) and this girl deserves a chance. I wish I could take her, my heart is aching for this beauty.

Purebred Deaf Senior Cat in MA

UPDATE: ADOPTED!REX

Our rescue took in Cashmere, an older (at least 10 years) cat, from an abusive situation. He is a stunner - purebred close and curly Devon Rex coat, with blue points. He is also a character - talks loudly and constantly, and is in constant motion when he's awake. He adores people, other cats are fine, but not of great interest to this regal beauty. All of his senior bloodwork and urine are normal, and normal thyroid function. However, he pees a lot! He benefits from having several boxes available to him.

We are interested in getting him into a home that will be able to care for a currently healthy senior. A free will adoption fee is fine, to help cover the vetting for this boy.

Deaf Australian Shepherd Pup in CO

UPDATE: RESCUED ALONG WITH HIS BROTHER! Fatboy

More About Fat Boy

Fat Boy is an adorable male aussie mix. He is a social little guy that needs a good home with lots of room to run. Fat boy is also deaf. He does great with other dogs, and functions like a normal puppy. He needs a home with experience with a deaf puppy.

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12673876&mtf=1

Hi,

I am desperately trying to help the Valley Humane League find an Aussie rescue who will be able to help this lovely little guy who is need. This little boy was born deaf on 11/06/08 and has been in foster since being owner surreneder to the Valley Humane League in early December. I am told he is a super friendly pup and has his sight in tact. The community around this shelter is poor and very rural. Dogs are generally kept outside on a chain and a deaf dog is not sought after and has a very dire future here.

Jenna is the manager of this shelter and is open to shipping this pup to an appropriate rescue, plus, as soon as tomorrow a transport is going to pick up others and will be returning to Colorado late in the evening. If anyone can help this beautiful boy, please contact me as or Jenna as soon as possible.Thank you for your consideration,
