Pyrenees to be Dumped at Shelter in AL

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

My name is Tammy Ray I need help finding a home for my father's great Pyrenees. We live in Pell City Alabama about an hour and a half from Atlanta. This is the story my father bought 2 Pyrenees from a local flea market oneturned out to be deaf. My father has kept him in a 10x10 fence since he bought him. Every time he lets him out he runs away. He told me yesterday he was taking him to our local animal shelter. I asked him to wait and letme see if I could find him a home. He is a very sweet dog I was going over every week and walking him but after I put him back in the pen he would hurt himself trying to get out. He is 16 months old he is not neutered but I would be willing to take care of everything and drive him into Atlanta, anything to get him into a better environment. My e-mail address is raykerinc02@msn.com. Phone #205-814-1198
Please let me know if you can help.

Deaf Horse Used as a Model

A wonderful article on how Cali, the deaf horse, have contributed to the understanding of disabilities and how they can function equally if allowed and given the opportunity. The emphasis is on the abilities of each individual as everyone has their own limits. Even hearnig animals and people have limits and we are not quick to call them as someone with disabilites. Attached is a video of Cali with her trainer in the article below:

Deaf Horse, FlipFlop, Needs a Loving Home

It seems other horses on the website have been adopted or their adoption are pending while FlipFlop continues to wait for a home. If you have a land with a barn that is appropriately designed to take in a horse and looking for a deaf horse to be seriously committed to, consider FlipFlop. Isn't she adorable?? I have no doubt that deaf horses are able to respond to sign language.

Deaf Ferret and its Playmate Need a Home

Both ferrets have been de-scented. They are located in Fredericksburg, VA. The owner doesn't have time for them since their son was born.

The first ferret is 8-12 months old, Female, Blaze, with Waardenburg markings. She is deaf but is a very sweet ferret. Loves to lay around and can do a crazy war dance when she is ready to play.
Blaze

The other is 4-6 months old, Female, Sable. She is also sweet, but will get jealous if the other is outside of the cage. She loves to play with cats, our cat plays gently with her also.

Sable

The cage is about 3 feet tall by 2 feet wide, has a platform for them to walk up to get to the top, where the Hammock (WAS- was dirt so took out) is. They are litter trained inside and outside the cage. The bed is on the bottom but they usually sleep together in the hammock. Also comes with feeding bowl, water, bottle and extra litter.

$200 adoption fee for both, including the stuff.

Contact James at jaboswell@gmail.com or call at 540-717-1895

P.S. If things work out and the adopter is out of state, contact deafanimalrow@gmail.com to see how transportation can be arranged.

Deaf Dog will be Put Down if Not Saved in NC

UPDATE: RESCUED! Interested to adopt or foster, contact Margret at softestpaws@aol.com

Attached are photos of a dog of unknown parentage at the Wayne Co. Shelter. Young male, very thin, very quiet, loaded with fleas. Intact. Reacted to camera flash but I think his vision is very limited. Ears perked up now and then as if listening, but did not react when clapping behind his head. Maybe he's "hearing" vibrations? Sweet boy. He's available tomorrow. Won't last long with his handicaps. Contact Melanie at DeeOhGeeRescue@nc.rr.com

Retirees Want to Let Go of a Deaf Dog in KY

My name is Scooter - Bob and I am deaf

but–

I like kids, other dogs, and cats; I’m very smart and respond to hand signals; I lead well andI love to play and chase balls. I am 2 years old and I am neutered. If you look at my pictures you will see that I am a happy pup and I smile a lot. My mom and dad will be retiring soon and plan on traveling. They are afraid it wouldn’t be fair to put me in a kennel when I could be in a loving home where I could get the attention I deserve.

I live in Franklin County and if you think you might like me to be your best friend, please call Debbie during the day at 564-3358 or Susan evenings at 226-5111.

How many of you would like to see Earl be voted as the Dog of the Month!?!?

Let's show them what Deaf community is made of, given its close-knittedness nature and the power of networking in the community. Even for the animals! It will help bring publicity to deaf animals that are often not given a chance. A deaf dog doesn't only represent deaf dogs but all deaf animals and mammals imaginable out there! Just take a moment to cast your vote.

Go to this site below and click on view current entries. Once there, scroll down to find Earl:

Foster Homes Needed for 2 Deaf Cats in PA

While this site was often the force behind many of the deaf cats being adopted once posted here when their deaf cat, be it in shelter, at home, or foster has been waiting for over a year or so, there are two all white deaf cats, both from different places, that are in need of a foster home.

I will make arrangement and bring them over myself. First preference to have a foster home is here in the state but I might would consider neighboring states such as Delaware, New York, New Jersey or DC Metro area, depending on who is the most qualified to care for the deaf cat. A permanent home will be found after they are screened with a home visit. What is only expected of a foster parent is to ensure that the cat is provided with food, water, litterbox, safety and training if any. Also, to update me on if they are good with other cats and/or dogs and whether or not they can be around children to help figure out what kind of home would be appropriate for them.

Once they go into a foster home, they will be posted for adoption. Please email deafanimalrow@gmail.com if you would like to foster.

The Loving Deaf Boston Terrier Duo!

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

They're Cooper and Gus. And YES, they are indeed deaf brothers -- born to a deaf mother. Whoever the person is may not be aware that the mother is deaf or is aware and didn't think it would pass down to its litter. They have been neutered by the family as should all cats and dogs, be it deaf or hearing, in attempt to control the severity of overpopulation.

Hey Gus, look up with me or we won't get any treat!

Cooper, I am looking up and now you are distracted, bro!

These dogs are happy and sweet as evidenced by the pictures taken on first day. The family cares about Cooper/Gus's welfare. After I got in touch with Jeanne to see if she would be open to allowing me to help find her dogs the right home. She agreed to my offer before I sought the assistance of Rosemary from Faith's Hope Rescue to facilitate the screening of applicants in order to ensure that a home is a perfect match for them. I set up a day/time for us to meet with Jeanne and the dogs. Initially, I planned on fostering them and it was before we found out that Gus is not able to co-exist with any other animal but his brother. Advice was given to the family to hold on to them until a right home is found as shelters are the worst place to leave animals at. Their patience and willingness are appreciated.
Pah! We are synchronizing in response to Katherine's "sit" command in ASL

A Dying Woman Needs a Home for Her Deaf Dog

UPDATE: Two people have stepped in to offer foster for Dee-Dee when owner is in hospital and adoption for Dee-Dee when time comes.

Dee-Dee

I have a friend in need who has rescued one very special dog that will need a new home very soon. My friend has cancer. Her health is now seriously compromised, and her loyal companion, a wonderful, affectionate dog, will need a loving home in the very near future.

She rescued this puppy (at the time) from an abusive owner who didn't realize the puppy was deaf. That was about 8 years ago. This dog, Dee-Dee, for deaf dog, has become very important to my friend. Dee-Dee is a spayed female, white Am. Bull Terrier with blue eyes. Those blue eyes gave my friend a clue that she might be deaf. The dog lives with 2 kittens, 2 adult cats, and my friend. Quite an interesting household, and everything would be fine, if my friend had longevity on her side, which she doesn't. She is a breast cancer victim that has metastasized to other vital organs, had more than one surgery, and is now facing a tumor in her liver. Originally diagnosed at age 42 in 1997, this disease has gradually worn her down. Prognosis is poor.

Any help you could give me as to where to turn to assist my friend to find a home for Dee-Dee would be so much appreciated. We are in southern Calif.

Please reply to my personal email address:

Dee-Dee is an 11 yr. old white deaf Am. Staffordshire bull terrier, spayed. Weight: Approx. 60 lbs.
Gets bathed every other week, just had her teeth cleaned. She healthy, seems younger to me than 11 yrs., plays well with other dogs, lives with 4 cats, and plays ball and chase games with her owner. She knows hand signals. She understands sit, stay, and come.

She keeps her eyes on her owner, and in this regard, you would be hard pressed to know she doesn't hear. A wonderful affectionate dog that greets you in the traditional manner, puts her nose up to you to be petted. She has completely forgotten about being mistreated as a puppy by her former owner.

Regards,
Emily

Dana and Dee-Dee

Deaf Pit Bull Pup in GA Slated to Die w/o Help!

FURTHER UPDATE: It is learned that the pup has contracted parvo and didn't make it. It is unfortunate.

Hi,

This little pup was abandoned in front of my vet's office and is obviously a Pit mix. He has a perfect ridge down the middle of his back and has crystal blue eyes. He's been dewormed and had his 1st shot and weighs 6 lbs. The vet will put him down if no placement is found for him in the next week. Any chance you have room for the little guy?

Let me know!
Thanks,
Donna
